VFI = your field as a percentage (100% = perfect) — the easiest number to follow. Reliability indices on top tell whether the test itself can be trusted. 6. Visual field test kyun zaroori hai glaucoma mein?

Kyunke glaucoma ka ilaaj sirf ek maqsad ke liye hai — aapki nazariye ka kshetra (field of vision) bachana. Eye pressure toh sirf ek number hai; asli result ye hai ki aapki field stable hai ya ghatti ja rahi hai. Bina field test ke glaucoma treatment andheron mein teer chalane jaisa hai — isliye har 6–12 mahine mein field repeat hoti hai, aur har field aapki purani fields se compare hoti hai.

7. Field test mein kitne lights dikhani chahiye? Bahut miss hue toh?

Relax — you are supposed to miss many lights. The machine deliberately shows dimmer and dimmer lights to find your threshold; “missing” is built into the design. It also plants fake checks (lights you should see easily, and moments with no light at all) to measure false responses. Your job is only to be honest: press when you see, don’t press when you don’t. The computer handles the rest.

8. How often should the visual field test be repeated in glaucoma?

Typically every 6–12 months for stable patients; every 3–6 months if progression is suspected, after any treatment change, or in advanced disease. Newly diagnosed patients need 2–3 baseline fields in the first two years. Always on the same machine, at the same centre — otherwise the trend comparison (GPA) is impossible.

9. Can a visual field test detect brain tumor or stroke?

Yes — this surprises most patients. The pattern of field loss localizes the problem: bitemporal hemianopia (outer halves missing in both eyes) classically signals a pituitary tumour pressing the optic chiasm; homonymous hemianopia (same side missing in both eyes) points to the brain — stroke, tumour or injury behind the eye. Many patients are referred for MRI on the basis of a field chart alone.

11. Is a visual field test needed for driving licence or ptosis surgery?

Yes to both, when asked. For driving/fitness certification, the binocular Esterman field test is the accepted standard. For ptosis (droopy eyelid) surgery, insurers demand a taped-vs-untaped superior field proving the lid blocks functional vision — we perform exactly that documentation. Bring the authority’s format if you have one.

12. Test ke dauran button galat dab gaya toh report kharab ho jayegi kya?

Nahi — a few wrong presses are completely normal and expected. The machine continuously measures false positives (pressing with no light), false negatives (not pressing bright lights) and fixation losses (eye wandering). Only if these cross limits is the test declared “unreliable” — and then we simply repeat it, often with the shorter SITA Faster strategy. Ek galat button se report kharab nahi hoti.
